preparing to travel with pet

Domestic Pet Health Certificate

Go to the USDA website for interstate pet travel to review the requirements specific to your destination state. Not all states will have the same pet requirements.

Review your pet travel requirements

Contact your airline about their pet travel requirements. How soon will they need your pet’s paperwork? What is the window of time in which your pet needs to have an exam? Your airline may also have some forms that your veterinarian will need to complete. Getting all the necessary documents completed in time is your responsibility. However, our team will be glad to help you in any way you need. Be sure to pre-schedule your pet’s appointment for an exam and paperwork at your earliest convenience so we can make sure you get everything you need in time. Many airlines require that a pet be examined within 10-14 days of flying.

International Pet Health Certificate

Traveling internationally with your pet naturally requires more steps than domestic travel. Therefore, you will need to give yourself more time to prepare.

Here is what you need to do to get started:

Go to the USDA website for international travel

As soon as you are certain you will be traveling with your pet to another country, visit the USDA website for international travel as soon as possible to find out what the requirements are for your host country. You will need to start preparing to make sure you and your pet meet all of these requirements, including USDA endorsement of your pet’s health certificate and other documents. Otherwise, your pet may have to be quarantined.

Contact your airline

As with domestic airlines, international airlines also have specific requirements for pets. Find out all you can about the airline’s requirements, along with the timeline for getting everything completed. Many airlines require that your pet have an exam within 10 to 14 days of traveling, so make sure to schedule your pet’s exam in advance. Your airline may also require your veterinarian to fill out additional paperwork. Be sure to bring the necessary documents to your pet’s exam so we can help you complete your paperwork.
